Traditional leaders, religious figures and dignitaries from across Africa are calling for forgiveness, unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens to help end the growing conflicts and instability on the continent.
The call was made by Torgbui Manklado Xevi Borbordzi VII during the 14th Annual Muslim/Islamic Gathering of Mamprugu, organized by the Concerned Muslim Youth Association of Mamprugu (CMYA).
The colorful gathering brought together Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, youth groups and guests from countries including Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, and other African nations to discuss peace, unity and religious tolerance.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Torgbui Xevi Borbordzi VII emphasized that forgiveness remains one of the strongest tools needed to maintain peace and stability in African societies.
According to him, many wars, tribal clashes, political unrest and communal conflicts across Africa continue because people refuse to let go of past grievances and long-standing disputes.
He noted that hatred and revenge have destroyed relationships, displaced families, and slowed development in several African countries, stressing that forgiveness can help heal divisions and strengthen national unity.
The traditional leader further urged Africans, especially the youth, to avoid violence, religious extremism, and ethnic divisions that threaten peace across the continent.
Touching on religion, he explained that true Islam promotes peace, discipline, humility, and respect for humanity. He added that some individuals identify themselves as Muslims by name but fail to practice the true teachings of Islam.
He commended the Muslim community for promoting peace and unity and described Islam as one of the religions contributing significantly to peaceful coexistence in Ghana and across Africa.
Participants at the gathering also called on African leaders to prioritize dialogue, tolerance, and reconciliation in addressing conflicts affecting countries such as Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali and Sudan.
