Police in Kira Division are investigating a suspected murder following the recovery of a decomposed body believed to be that of a 52-year-old woman who had been missing for months.

The body, identified as Oliver Naziwa, a resident of Kito 'A' village in Kirinya, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, was discovered on May 4 during a search at a suspect's residence.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the case was formally reported on April 28 after relatives raised concerns about the woman's disappearance, which dates back to October 2025.

"Clothing believed to belong to the deceased was also recovered at the scene, aiding identification," Owoyesigyire said.

He added that two suspects, including a biological relative of the deceased, have been arrested to assist with investigations.

"The scene was thoroughly processed, statements were recorded, and the body was conveyed to the City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death," he said on Tuesday.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects may have been operating a cult-like group that discouraged members from seeking medical treatment and conducting proper burials.

Police have warned the public against participating in or forming illegal cults, saying such practices endanger lives and will be dealt with firmly.

Investigations are ongoing.
