Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, who has been serving as Deputy OC Kiboga prisons, principal warder Bright Akishuri, in charge of duties and Sarah Ayebare, the wife of the officer in charge, were shot dead on Monday, February 23, 2026, at around 10 am.

Prison authorities said the deputy OC and the in-charge duties were on routine inspection and supervision of their staff when they reportedly encountered Anguyo on the phone chatting on WhatsApp, which is against prison duty procedures.

"They cautioned him and moved away, not knowing that he had not taken the caution in good faith. He followed them and opened gunfire at them Killing three people instantly, including OC's wife, who was within the vicinity of the shooting," said the regional police spokesperson for Wamala Region, SSP Lameck Kigozi.

Anguyo reportedly fled the scene naked, and the police hunt is on. "Kiboga police and the UPDF have responded and reinforced security at the prison facility. The killer weapon has been recovered with 15 rounds of ammunition," SSP Kigozi said.

The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Kiboga hospital for post-mortem examination.
