A prison warder attached to Kiboga Central Prisons in Kiboga District has shot dead two prison officers and a child at the prison's barracks in Kiboga Town Council.

Uganda Prisons Spokesperson Frank Baine confirmed the incident, saying, "It is true we have lost two staff at Kiboga Central prison shot dead by a prison warder who is on the run. We are compiling the details about the unfortunate incident that will be released shortly."

Kiboga RDC Mr Ssempala Kigozi said security is pursuing the prison staff who fled with a gun and are believed to be on the run.

"It is unfortunate that a prison staff member turned the gun on his colleagues, killing them instantly. The prison warder also killed a child at the barracks as he shot randomly. A combination of security agencies is pursuing the prison warder to have the gun recovered," he said.

The Officer in Charge of Kiboga Prisons and the second in Charge are among the dead, according to security officials in Kiboga. Three other people who sustained injuries are nursing wounds at Kiboga Hospital.

The motive behind the shooting is still unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
