A social media post by U.S.-based Ghanaian pastor, Prophet Jimmy Alla-Mensah, is drawing renewed attention following the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, and the announcement of his state burial.

On July 5, 2025—nine days before Buhari’s passing was made public—Prophet Jimmy shared a brief but striking post on Facebook: “Nigeria, I see a state burial (leadership). May God have mercy, in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.”

At the time, no national mourning or leadership-related loss had been reported in Nigeria. However, on July 14, the BBC confirmed that former President Buhari had died on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82, in a clinic in London. His body was flown to Nigeria on Tuesday morning aboard the country’s presidential aircraft.

According to Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda—who had been with the late leader’s family in London—Buhari will be buried with full state honours in the compound of his private home in Daura, Katsina State. The late president’s final resting place is about 80 kilometers from the state capital, Katsina City.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a seven-day national mourning period in Buhari’s honour, beginning Sunday. All national flags are being flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Tributes have poured in from across the nation and beyond. Former President Goodluck Jonathan praised Buhari as a selfless patriot. General Ibrahim Babangida, who led the 1985 coup that ousted Buhari’s first regime as a military ruler—described him as “a moral compass” and “an example of modesty in public life.”
