2021 BET Awards: Three Africa artistes grab nominations

Three African artistes have been nominated for the Best International Act at the 2021 BET Awards.

The three are Nigerian duo of Burna Boy and Wizkid with Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz being the third.

According to organizers, the 2021 edition of the awards reflect an abundance of creative expression and Black excellence across music, television, film, and sports.

Burna Boy won the Best International Act category at the 2019 and 2020 BET Awards.

The trio are up against other acts such as: Aya Nakamura (France), Emicida (Brazil), Headie One (UK), Young T & Bugsey (UK) and Youssoupha (France).

“We are back and excited to bring culture’s biggest night, the 2021 ‘BET Awards,’ safely back to Los Angeles to celebrate this year’s incredible roster of nominees,” said Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy.

“We broke ground as one of the first official awards shows to move forward during the global pandemic and we are ready to take our pioneer status to the next level with the return of an audience to celebrate the best and brightest creative minds in the entertainment industry.”



Issa Rae is up for Best Actress alongside Andra Day, Jurnee Smollett, Viola Davis, Zendaya, and Angela Bassett. Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Kaluuya, Eddie Murphy, Lakeith Stanfield, Aldis Hodge and Damson Idris were nominated in the category of Best Actor.

Megan Thee Stallion has seven nominations including Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Collaboration.

DaBaby also claimed the top spot securing seven nods, including Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Album of the Year, and Viewer’s Choice Award.
