A state funeral for Tanzanian president John Pombe Magufuli has taken place in the capital Dodoma today.

The event at a packed stadium is the second of three funerals for the former president. As expected, a number of African leaders joined the government and people of the East African country to bid the former leader farewell.

GhanaWeb's monitored the event which saw all dignitaries present taking turns to celebrate the memory of Magufuli who died of heart related complications last week.

His wife Janet and new president Samia Suluhu Hassan were in attendance as well as top government officials. Suluhu, Magufuli's vice since 2015, was sworn in as president as per constitutional provisions. She became the first woman to occupy the position.

Below are the 10 African leaders in Dodoma

2. Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa

3. Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi

4. Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya

5. Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique

6. Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe

7. Eric Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana

8. Azali Assoumani of Comoros

The local Citizen newspaper reported that Special Police Zone Commander Lazaro Mambosasa had confirmed that a number of people were injured amid a stampede at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, venue of the first state funeral.

The police chief added that there is a possibility the number could be high. There were chaotic scenes on Sunday, March 21, when tens of thousands of people from all walks of life turned up to bid farewell to the man who was Tanzania’s head of state for nearly five and a half years.

At some point, security officers had to prevent mourners from entering the stadium using unofficial entrance points.

Tanzania Red Cross Society personnel on the other hand had a busy time attending to mourners who fainted after filing past Magufuli’s body.

Spiritualist cum social commentator, Kofi Amoateng, now known as Onegod, has asked the 2020 running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to tread cautiously as some individuals within her family are plotting evil against her.

He stated on Oman Channel's 'Sumsum Mu Ahintasem' that, “People from her mothers’ family who never envisioned that she will become a potential Vice President are chasing her with darkness and blindness. She has to be extra careful about her eyes, her family don’t want NDC to come to power because of her sake.”

Onegod further indicated that the Finance Minister-designate, Ken Ofori-Atta, should seek herbal treatment for his post-COVID-19 recovery complications.

“Karma says I should inform him that his recovery is not in America where he has gone to seek help. His healing is right here in Ghana. It is a spiritual sickness and that requires herbal treatment instead of orthodox treatment. He is not fully recovered, he shouldn’t think he has recovered yet and seek herbal attention when he returns to the country,” he said.

Ofori-Atta in February travelled out of the country to the United States of America for medical attention.

According to a release by the Ministry of Finance, Ofori-Atta’s travel was on the advice of his doctor’s after he suffered post COVID-19 recovery complications.
