Minister Rukutana to be charged with armed robbery

The Director of Public Prosecutions has amended the charge sheet in which Mwesigwa Rukutana is charged with threatening violence and added the charge of armed robbery and causing grievous harm.

The state minister for labour, Mr Rukutana is expected to appear in court today for mention of his case after he was given bail by Chief Magistrates Court.

The allegation has it that Mr Rukutana robbed a smartphone and a laptop belonging to Moses Mwebesa, the owner of a car that was damaged during the National Resistance Movement primaries in Rushenyi Constituency.

In the amended charge, Mr Rukutana is also accused of causing grievous harm to Juma Kahitana.

Armed robbery is a capital offence that is tried in High Court.
