YAWC 2023 East Africa sub-regional congress to be held in Uganda

The Young African Women Congress (YAWC), an annual residential Pan-African women’s gathering is set to host the 2023 East African sub-regional session in Kampala, Uganda in April next year.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Coordinator of the congress, Mr Daniel Osei Tuffuor who doubles as the Executive Director for the Excellent Leadership Group (ExLA Group), the holding organisation for the YAWC Network.

Organised by the YAWC Network and its partners, the Young African Women Congress has empowered thousands of young women of African descent who are living in Africa and the diaspora to be change agents in their communities since its inception in 2016. The sixth annual continental convocation of the congress was held in October this year in Accra, Ghana.

The organisers introduced and successfully hosted the maiden edition of the East Africa sub-regional session in Nairobi-Kenya in May this year with the intention of taking empowerment to the doorstep of every African woman.

The second edition of the East Africa Sub-regional session is scheduled for 2nd to 5th April, 2023 at the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda under the theme, “Women’s Empowerment for Sustainable Development; A Collective Responsibility”.

The East Africa session under the aforementioned theme will access the empowerment tools being employed on the African continent and analyse the sustainability of their impact on the development and progress of women. The session would also mobilise and advocate for support for projects that has women’s development as their focus.

It will feature well-renowned leaders from different career backgrounds across the world who will take participants through various sessions including keynotes, panel discussions, group brainstorming sessions and parallel session. There will be other events on the sidelines of the congress and they include a full day fun trip to some tourist sites to enjoy the beauty and heritage of Uganda, a Gala dinner, business exhibition, among others.

In the same vein, the 7th annual continental convocation of the congress will also be held in Accra from 3rd to 7th September, 2023.
YAWC is open to young women of Africa and the diaspora who wish to be a part of the biggest platform for women empowerment in Africa. The platform promotes knowledge sharing and intellectual discourse and most importantly, engenders a strong sense of belonging which propels participants to become changemakers in their immediate environments with rippling effects on the continent at large.
