Jenifer Lewis, 67, known for her role in the comedy series Black-ish, has been talking about her 3m (10ft) fall in November 2022 from a hotel balcony in Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.

Recalling the incident to the US-based website TMZ, she said that her room had a balcony that was dimly lit and she stepped out to the infinity pool on the deck where she subsequently fell and injured her right hip and shoulder.

She was then flown to and treated in a hospital in Kenya's capital, Nairobi. In the video interview, Lewis emotionally thanked Aga Khan University Hospital staff, appreciating their care and compassion.

"They picked me up like I was a baby. They braided my hair. They gave me an extra piece of chicken," she said.

The actress said she kept her fall private until now because she primarily wanted to ensure she was recovering.

“I didn't want y'all to know I had fallen until I could show you how I got back up,” she said.
