TWO brothers drowned at Windhoek's Olympia public swimming pool this afternoon.

Although police deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said she heard about the incident, she could not confirm it immediately.

However, a source close to the family confirmed the incident, saying the boys, aged four and six, had been in the care of their mother.

The Namibian cannot reveal the names of the deceased (known to this newspaper) without police confirmation.

Anti-crime and community activist Shaun Naude, who confirmed the incident, said parents should not leave their children unattended at swimming pools.

He said the responsibility is on the parents or supervising adults to watch over their children.

The incident follows the drowning of an 11-year-old boy at Walvis Bay over the weekend.

The police in Erongo, who confirmed the incident, said the boy had gone to Independence Beach with his friends.
