Stop being beggars - Ghana president to African leaders

President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akfuo-Addo has urged African Leaders to stop begging.

He is of the view that there is a need for African Presidents to invest the country’s resources on the continent.

The President of Ghana made this known at the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington DC on Tuesday, December 13.

“If we stop being beggars and spend African money inside the continent, Africa will not need to ask for respect from anyone,” he charged fellow leaders.

“We will get the respect we deserve. If we make it prosperous as it should be, respect will follow.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo observed that Africans are resilient and work extremely hard so that should be channelled to the African continent.

“Africans are more resilient outside the continent than inside. We must bear in mind that to the outside world, [there’s] nothing like Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya, we are simply Africans. Our destiny as people depends on each other.”

His comment comes after Ghana secured $3 billion from the International Monetary Fund to support the country’s ailing economy.
