South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has agreed a deal on the formation of a unity government with his rival Riek Machar, Reuters news agency reports quoting the president.

According to a 2018 peace deal aimed at ending the six-year civil war, the two should have formed the government in November, but they gave themselves another 100 days.

President Kiir and Mr Machar have been meeting in South Sudan's capital Juba over the past three days, Reuters says.

The two have formed a unity government once before in 2016, but that fell apart within months.
