School heads in Kenya have been instructed to use school transport to drop off students home after the president directed that schools close by Wednesday.

Boarding schools are popular in Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday directed that all students who study in boarding schools be home by Wednesday.

The Ministry of Education has given the guidelines to be used to ensure students get home safe after the country confirmed three Coronavirus cases.

Education Minister George Magoha said parents who can pick their children from schools should do so.

He instructed school heads to use school buses to ferry students, who will not be picked, to designated drop off points where their parents can pick them up.

Mr Magoha said schools can organise for transport with public service vehicles provided the vehicles carry students only and are cleaned and sanitised by schools.
