Police in Adjumani District are investigating the killing of a South Sudanese national whose body was discovered along the Adjumani-Moyo road on Monday morning.
The deceased, 50-year-old Michael Drabuga of Rassia West Village, Marindi Parish, was found at around 7 a.m., police said.
According to Collins Asea, the Police Public Relations Officer for North West Nile, Drabuga had left his home at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, reportedly to visit a nearby bar.
“The deceased did not return home that night. The following day, at around 7 a.m., his body was discovered along the Adjumani-Moyo Road, in Marindi Village,” Asea said.
He added that a postmortem examination conducted at Adjumani General Hospital revealed multiple injuries, including a broken rib, indicating that Drabuga had been murdered by unknown assailants. The body was later handed over to relatives for burial.
No arrests have been made, and police investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime, Asea said.
The incident is the latest in a series of deadly events affecting South Sudanese nationals in northwestern Uganda.
In August 2025, 34-year-old Faima Chetima, a South Sudanese refugee living in Village Five of Bidibidi Zone Five Settlement in Yumbe District, was found dead by the roadside in Buya Village, Oluba Parish, Odravu West Sub-county.
In July 2025, another tragedy struck at an illegal mining site in Terego District, where a soil collapse at River Ure, Point J Village, Imvepi Refugee Settlement, Odupi Sub-county, killed 35-year-old Nema Onyiyo and injured Lilious Pasi, both South Sudanese refugees.
“These incidents highlight the vulnerability of South Sudanese nationals in refugee settlements and border districts,” Asea noted, urging community members to cooperate with authorities while investigations continue.
Authorities have not provided any further information regarding motives or suspects in Drabuga’s killing.
