Police gun down killers of Nigeria ruling party chieftain, Ahmed Gulak

Following the gruesome murder of the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ahmed Gulak, the Imo State police have revealed that persons responsible for the assassination have been shot dead.

Spokesperson for the command, Bala Elkana hinted in a statement shared through Facebook on Sunday, May 30, 2021 noted that the suspects were killed in a gun battle.

He stated that other ammunition and vehicles used in the assassination of the former presidential aide were also recovered.

Through the assistance of Ahmed Gulak's driver and eyewitnesses who gave actual descriptions of the assailants, the police operatives were able to apprehend the killers.

The police said: "The assailants were said to have used a Toyota Camry 2005 model with silver color; Toyota Sienna 1998 Model with golden color; Toyota Hilux with white color; and a Lexus RX 330 with golden Color.

(Registration numbers are withheld for security reasons). Having established the identity of the assailants and the description of the vehicles used in carrying out the attack, the teams further got details of the direction the hoodlums had taken. With further leads, the team was able to establish the location of the suspects."

According to the police, the suspects were located at Afor Enyiogugu junction in Aboh-Mbaise local government area where they were found distributing onions to locals from a trailer they confiscated.

The hoodlums who were giving protection to those distributing the onions on sighting the security operatives opened fire on the police team.

The police said its forces returned fire, killing six hoodlums who carried out the killing and fatally injuring four other members of the gang.

The driver of late Ahmed Gulak identified the dead assailants as those who killed the politician.

Earlier reports indicate that President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock and sadness over the death of Ahmed Gulak.

President Buhari has also sent his condolences to the family of the deceased.
