A bomb has exploded in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

A plume of thick black smoke was seen over the city and witnesses said a number of vehicles were on fire, AFP news agency reports.

The explosion happened at a busy junction near buildings housing the government, Reuters news agency says.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
