MP takes advantage of Corona break to rehabilitate schools

Thika Town MP, Eng. Patrick Wainaina, has taken advantage of the break occasioned by Coronavirus to rehabilitate and equip Schools in the Constituency.

The MP commonly referred to as Wa Jungle says the exercise has targeted various Schools through the NG-CDF kitty partnership.

So far out of the total 56 primary and secondary schools in the constituency, 45 have undergone a major infrastructural overhaul with the remaining expected to be completed by end of June.

The MP who was on an inspection tour of Kenyatta and Kamenu Primary Schools distributed 16 10,000ltr water tanks to schools for water harvesting.

He said the same will help the school community to uphold high standards of hygiene more so during this era of Covid-19.

Wainaina said his major task is to improve education standards in the constituency. “I will strive to ensure that Thika regains its status as an academic giant in the Country and this can only be realized if we create a conducive learning environment for our children.” He said.

The MP said the 15,000 KCPE and KSCE candidates from the constituency, have received full revision materials through the NG-CDF kitty and are now undertaking their revisions in the comfort of their homes.

He said after rehabilitating schools, the next phase will involve fencing of the Schools compound saying the current status of these schools is due to neglect by those who served in leaders positions in the previous years.

Wainaina said leaders who misuse development funds have no space in the modern society saying it’s important for a leader to ensure funds under the NG-CDF kitty as well as from development partners serve the intended purpose.

And as the debate to re-open Schools or not escalates, the MP said the Government should be careful not to risk the lives of children until such a time when COVID-19 is under control.

Kenyatta Primary Deputy headteacher Maria Kamau thanked the MP for initiating the rehabilitation of Schools in the area saying it was long overdue.
