Female coach makes history in Serirra Leone

Sierra Leone Premier League side East End Tigers have made history after the appointment of Victoria Conteh as their head coach for the 2019-20 season.

Conteh is the first woman to coach a top-flight team in the country, having previously led the nation’s senior international women’s team.

Conteh, 45, has an A License from the Confederation of African Football, with her appointment confirmed by the club’s Twitter account.

She started her tenure with a 1-1 draw at home to Kallon FC that has seen the side take four points from their opening two games of the new season.

Conteh is a police officer and the club had to seek a special release from her day job to allow her to take up the post.

Tigers finished ninth in the 13-team Premier League last season, just four points above the relegation zone, which has prompted the change in coach.

They have made a number of new signings, including forward Phillip Neville, who netted in their 1-0 victory over RSLAF that got their season under way.

The league was won by rivals East End Lions in July 2019.
