Former South African president Jacob Zuma has been asked to bear the cost of his legal challenge on the constitutionality of a corruption probe launched against him.

The embattled Zuma applied to the Constitutional Court in a bid to recoup some 10 million rand which translates to about $725,000.

The court threw out his application Thursday May 27 citing the reason that his legal team missed a deadline to file the appeal record.

The State Capture Commission of inquiry led by deputy Chief Justice Zondo was set up by President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2018 to investigate corruption in state institutions.

Mr Zuma has repeatedly denied accusations of receiving bribes from a French arms manufacturer in 1999.

He was replaced as head of the ruling Africa National Congress, ANC, in late 2018 as as president in early 2019.
