Stoke City have bolstered their midfield options for next season by signing former Nigeria skipper John Mikel Obi in the on-going summer transfer window.

The 33-year-old penned a deal with the Potters after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor by mutual consent in March.

Mikel Obi joins Morgan Fox, James Chester, and Steven Fletcher in checking in at the bet365 Stadium ahead of the 2020/21 Championship season.

He made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea during his 11-year spell at the club, where he won the Champions League in 2012.

He also won two league titles, three FA Cups, and the Europa League in 2013 with the Blues.

The Nigerian midfielder has previously played for Chinese side Tianjin TEDA and Middlesbrough.

Obi made 91 appearances for Nigeria before retiring from international football following last year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Stoke won three of their last four games in 2019/20 Championship to pull away from relegation trouble and finish 15th under former Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill.
