The number of sexual abuse cases involving children is alarming in the Serowe and surrounding villages.

Serowe Police Station commander has alleged that some cases involved taxi drivers who keep female pupils at their houses during school hours.

Most such cases go unreported. In one incident, Supt Oteng told BOPA that they were investigating a case in which a girl aged between 12 and 15 was molested by a taxi driver at Semane ward in Serowe last week.

The taxi driver reportedly raped the girl at his place and the young girl reported the matter to the police.

Supt Oteng said the girl was taken to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed that she had been molested.

The suspect is to appear before Serowe Magistrate Court.

In another incident, Supt Oteng said the police were investigating a case in which an 86-year-old man who went missing last month, was found dead at Shakge lands near Serowe.

The deceased’s relatives had reported him missing to the police.
