The authorities in Zimbabwe have isolated a Thai national who reportedly earlier walked out of a hospital in the capital, Harare, before being tested for suspected coronavirus, state-run Herald newspaper says.

The 26-year-old man presented himself at an isolation centre in the city, the paper adds.

The man had entered Zimbabwe from Thailand in February, officials said. He was referred from a private clinic to Wilkins Hospital in Harare on 8 March, after complaining of fever and sneezing but he left before being tested.

City Health Director Dr Prosper Chonzi said the man would be held in isolation and would only be released when he tests negative.

“We are keeping an eye on him and we are happy that he is back for us to conduct the necessary tests. He is currently in isolation until we are sure that he does not have the virus,” said Dr Chonzi.
