Coronavirus: NWR offers resort as isolation facility

The Namibia Wildlife Resorts has offered its Hardap resort for use as an isolation centre for quarantined people in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.

NWR acting managing director Matthias Ngwangwama says the offer comes after a seemingly increasing need for isolation. “With the Hardap resort close to the Mariental hospital, we believe that the 54 rooms, with 220 beds, ranging from dormitory rooms to family chalets with self-catering facilities would provide the necessary isolation environment needed,” noted Ngwangwama.

FNB urges clients to use digital banking

First National Bank has urged clients to make use of the digital banking platforms available via the FNB app, online banking, cellphone banking, or to make use of the e-Wallet facility. The bank, as part of its precautionary measures against coronavirus, has also increased the frequency of cleaning their premises, as well as having certain environments, like the ATMs, undergo extensive cleaning. The bank further said as from 6 April, all withdrawals and deposits below N$5 000 will have to be done at ATMs.

Meat board measures against Covid-19

The Meat Board of Namibia has urged members of the public to make use of online applications and payments for ear tags instead of visiting their offices. Ear tags previously ordered and paid for can be collected by means of a drive-through system. Customers waiting for certificates will be notified, while only 10 clients will be allowed entry into the office at a time.

NUNW urges Namibians to adhere to lockdown

The National Union of Namibian Workers has urged Namibians to follow instructions given by the health ministry to protect themselves against Covid-19. The union said the virus has become an economic challenge for not only the country, but for the world, especially as many businesses could face closure. The union warned that should Namibians choose to ignore the measures implemented, thousands could lose their lives.

Environmental fund suspends office hours

The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia will suspend normal office hours and access to its building until 14 April 2020. The fund said all engagements will be restricted to virtual platforms. Electronic forms of communication, namely emails, social media, the website and the communication department, will be available to handle all queries.

Goethe-Institut to continue online

While the Goethe-Institut has cancelled all classes, concerts, workshops and exhibitions amid the coronavirus outbreak, they still have classes online and have launched an online campaign, adhering to the lockdown. The campaign aims to inform the public of free online services, providing public links to educational and entertaining material. The centre will remain reachable via telephone and email until 13 April.

Keetmans reconnects defaulters' water

The Keetmanshoop municipality has reconnected water to residents whose services were disconnected over defaults in payments. The municipality also urged affected residents to provide their names, current water meter readings and erf numbers to the following cellphone numbers: 081 414 9403, 081 840 7798 to have their water reconnected.
