Kevin-Prince Boateng lifts lid on reasons behind failed Fiorentina spell

Ghana forward Kevin-Prince Boateng has spoken of his experience at Fiorentina, says former coach Vincenzo Montella was partly to be blamed for his failed stint at the club.

Boateng joined the Violets on a two-year deal from US Sassuolo after his unsuccessful loan stint at FC Barcelona.

The 32-year-old was handed the iconic number 10 shirt at the Florence-based side in a bid to revive the club's fortunes in the 2019/20 season.

The former AC Milan attacker excelled in the false nine roles during the club's pre-season training, but failed to replicate that form when the Serie A began.

Boateng managed only 1 goal in 15 games for the side before he was shipped on loan to Turkish giants Besiktas in January.

The Ghana international has shed light on why he failed to light up the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

“To make the most of it, many details must match, I arrived in Florence with great desire. It was the right place with a hot fan. With the shirt number ten I had the pressure to make an extra goal or an assist. I'm not happy with how it went. I'm angry, they haven't seen the real Boateng," he told Sky Italia.

Montella? We did not understand each other. He changed the idea he had at the beginning, he no longer wanted the attackers to go towards the ball."

Fiorentina sacked Vincenzo Montella in December after a heavy home loss to Roma which left them in 14th place.

Boateng meanwhile has flourished in Besiktas and the club are planning on exercising their purchase option after scoring 2 goals in 6 games before the suspension of the Turkish due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
