Marines Sticks labour to draw with Reformers

Accra, Nov. 2, GNA - Goalkeeper Gideon Amegavi stood between the Ghana Armed forces (Marine Sticks) and a goal harvest as the soldiers laboured to draw 1-1 with Reformers of Prison Service on Wednesday. Amegavi, pulled series of sticky saves including 18 short corners in the penultimate matches of the hockey segment of the Ninth SESSA Games played at the Thoedosia Oko pitch.

Kenneth Adjomadi scored for the Reformers in the 22nd minute against the run of play, forcing the soldiers who were tipped to wallop their opponents, to struggle for close to 40 minutes before Joseph Blankson fetched the needed equaliser with a beautiful drag-flick in the 60th minute.

And in a spite of the setback, the soldiers occupy the summit of the male's standings with seven points, the same as CEPS but with superior goals.

CEPS earlier in the day, trounced whipping boys, Police Service 3-0 to become join leaders.

In the ladies game, Ramatus Abass' last minute strike, gave Fire Service a sweet 1-0 win over Prison Service while CEPS registered their first win; bashing Armed Forces 5-0. The top two teams play in the finals while the third and fourth teams engage each other in third place match, all slated for Saturday. The games continue on Friday.
