Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah revealed that he and his team mates were excited to face Brazil in the round of 16 of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Ghana lost to Italy in their opening group stage game but secured qualification with back-to-back wins against Czech Republic and USA to book a show down with Brazil.

The South Americans were highly rated and had the likes of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Kaka and Adriano in the team.

“We were excited we were going to play against Brazil at the 2006 World Cup. We were excited because we were going to face the best team and to also showcase ourselves to the world”, Appiah told GTV Sports plus.

Ghana were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Brazil.

Stephen Appiah then went on to feature in his last world cup tournament in 2010.
