Mohammed Polo has paid glowing tribute to Ghana football legend Opoku Afriyie.

The former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak player died on Sunday March 29, 2020 in Kumasi at the age of 75.

Afriyie popularly known as ‘Beyie’ in football circles was an integral member of the Black Stars squad that won Ghana’s third Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 1978.

He bagged two goals in the final as the Black Stars beat the Cranes of Uganda 2-0.

Opoku was also the top scorer in the Ghana elite football league in 1979 and 1981.

Polo speaking after the demise of the former Black Stars goal poacher said he was deeply saddened to hear the demise of his longtime friend in the game.

“I think Opoku is one of the best strikers Ghana has produced and you can compare him to the Germans’ Gerd Muller”

"He was one the best and its sad that we're losing him at this point. He was a great person and I hope God will grant him eternal rest'

He then asked for forgiveness from God for the late striker.
