Kumasi, Sept 24, GNA - The management of Amashairo Hotel in Kumasi has decided to offer free accommodation to all the national football teams who will be camped to play their matches in Kumasi next year.
The sponsorship package is the contribution of the hotel to boost sporting activities in the country.
Mr Kwame Tutu, Manager of the hotel who disclosed this to the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Saturday said the package would cover the Black Stars, Satellites, Starlets and the Black Queens.
He said lack of sponsorship such as free accommodation for players during national assignments has brought financial burden to the government and hope the offer would help relieve the burden and enhance sporting activities in the country.
Commenting on the hotel industry, Mr Tutu said lack of credit facilities, higher interest rates and lack of promotion for domestic tourism were some of the problems facing the industry.
He appealed to the Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City to help address such problems to boost the hotel industry in the country.
The manager also said tourism in the country is a 'stale one' and suggested that the hotel business should be modernized to attract its use by more foreign tourists so as to improve its revenue. Mr Tutu also appealed to the government to give tax holidays for some periods for hoteliers to motivate them to work harder.
He commended the efforts of the Ghana Tourist Board for giving technical advice to hoteliers and appealed to them to take advantage of the opportunity to expand their businesses.
Mr Tutu urged the Board to educate commercial drivers to act as tour guides so that they lead and guide tourists to hotels and other destinations of tourism attractions.
He announced that plans were far advanced for the management of the hotel to expand its facilities including the construction of more rooms and other leisure facilities to attract more customers. 24 Sept 05
