Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Sekondi Hasaacas 2-0 in the GT Premier league match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday. An own goal scored by a Hasacas defender in the 57th minute and Dan Acquah's effort scored two minutes in injury time were all that mattered in the game.
Kotoko who fielded mostly their newly signed on players, kicked off from the blast of referee Vivian Agor of Accra and nearly took the lead in the second minute but Nasiru Ghani shot wide. They continued to pile pressure and in the seventh minute, Francis Akwafo with only goalkeeper Richard Addo to beat, fumbled in front of goal.
Let off the hook, Hasaacas in the 28th minute hit the cross bar from Osei Miller's header with goalkeeper Eric Nii Baah completely beaten.
Determined to take the lead, Hasaacas who played it hard, substituted Isaac Anderson for Daniel Ocran in the 42nd minute and this nearly paid of for them in the 45th minute but the chance was wasted. Both teams resumed the second half strongly but it was Kotoko who were on top but Ghani again failed to connect home a pass from Issah Ahmed in the 56th minute until the deadlock was broken a minute later when a shot from Ahmed was deflected from a head of a defender into the net.
Sensing danger, Hasaacas replaced Osei Miller with Micky Ephraim in the 62nd minute to strengthen the attack while Kotoko also followed a minute by replacing Ali Ouadrago for Osei Akoto.
In the 69th minute, Ghani was injured when in an attempt to score and was replaced by Elvis Opoku.
Hasaacas counter attacked and in the 72nd minute, Samuel Ellis beat an off side trap and raced with the ball but goalkeeper Baah was on hand to save his shot. They continued in their search for the equaliser with series of attacks but Ellis wasted a chance that came a minute into the injury time.
When the supporters of Kotoko started to leave the stadium, Dan Acquah scored the second goal for his side from a free kick by Nana Arhin Duah.
