Even Ghana is in debt – Referee Attifu tells Joe Debrah to retract boycott threat

Referees Association of Ghana Referees Association of Ghana

The Technical Director of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), Mr T.R.K Attifu has asked the Association’s Chairman, retired referee Joe Debrah to apologize to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for suggesting that referees in Ghana will boycott the upcoming 2019/20 league season due to unpaid arrears from the precious season.

It will be recalled that the chairman of the Referees Association, Joe Debrah hinted that his outfit will boycott the upcoming football season over unpaid allowances by the GFA.

But Mr. Attifu believes that, the Chairman’s position on the subject in question is not the position of the association hence the need for him to retract and apoligise to the FA.

In an interview with Kumasi based Nhyira FM, Mr. Attifu said “It’s rather unfortunate that the national chairman will make such an utterance because debt is something that human beings cannot do away with, which is why a sovereign state like Ghana is owing.”

“Kurt Okraku’s government just came and they have called for a meeting with you, so why do you make such a pronouncement even before meeting them.” He also added that the Chairman’s comments on Accra based Atinka FM does not reflect the decision of the association.

“And one thing. Referees Association of Ghana has never come out with any statement and the comments from the Chairman does not reflect the views of the members but his own opinion, “he added.

The 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season is expected to begin on December 28, 2019.
