Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt Dr Winfred Nii Okai Hammond paid a courtesy visit to the Black Meteors at their base in Cairo.

The team is currently in the North African country for the Africa U23 Cup of Nations (Afcon) which runs from 8-22 November.

Ahead of their opening group match against Cameroon on Friday, the ambassador assured Black Meteors of the embassy’s support throughout their stay in Egypt.
“I have a lot of confidence in this team. Because many did not expect that you could travel to Algeria and beat them there to qualify for this competition but you did it.

“Despite their senior team winning the AFCON, you fought well in Algeria and qualified to this competition," Ambassador Hammond said.

“You qualified against one of the best on the continent, so you earned your place in this competition. So nothing should deter you from believing in your selves once again. The future for this team will not end here I believe you will qualify to the Olympic Games in Japan.''

Ghana will be eyeing one of the three slots to book qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
