Asante Kotoko defender Empem Dacosta has hinted that he has not been playing at his preferred position because of the new role given to him by coach Kjetil Zachariassen.

The former Karela United centre back has been playing as a right back since the arrival of Kjetil Zachariassen to Asante Kotoko and the player has come under a barrage of criticisms following his performances in the CAF Champions League games against Kano Pillars and Etoile du Sahel.

But Dacosta believes that he will find the right rhythm to play in the right side of the defence because that is where the coach wants him to be.

“I have been assigned a special role by the Coach despite not playing in my preferred position,”said Dacosta.

“As a player, I admit that, I will face some challenges in my career so although it is not my natural position, I want to cope because the coach knows that I can play there. There is a lot in me that the fans have not seen yet”.

“I have to adjust as quickly as possible and perform the same way as I would at centre-back. I will entreat the supporters to be calm with me as my best will come as we progress further in the competition”.

The ball-playing defender, who joined the team in the last transfer window, picked his debut CAF Champions League game against Kano Pillars in Nigeria as his best so far.

“My best game so far was our away game at Kano Pillars where I had no experience in the African competition. It was my first ever international inter-club game and though we lost, I feel that I did well as a first-timer. However, I was not happy because of the result.”
