Aspiring Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, George Afriyie, has disclosed that he has enough legal backing to defend him if the vetting committee overseeing the GFA elections revokes his candidature based on some “assumed irregularities”.

The former Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee alongside three other members were cautioned by the Justice Dzamefe Commission of Enquiry set up to look into matters relating to the Black Stars participation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil to stay away from working with any of the national teams in future.

The finalization of the White Paper was based on an evidence given by George Afriyie which the Commission of Inquiry considered as false.

The situation has challenged the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahen who has threatened to drag George Afriyie and the three others to court if they insist on contesting for the FA Presidency.

However, reacting to the issue and other suggestions that there will be attempts to disqualify him, the former Vice President of the GFA affirmed his confidence in the K-SAN Law Firm to resist any attempts to fraudulently Eliminate him from the race.

“I have a strong firm with K-SAN and Thaddeus Sory as well as lawyer Ntow Fianko and lawyer Kweku Eyiah backing me, and when it gets to that bridge we will cross it,” Afriyie said in an interview with the press after submitting his GFA forms on Friday, September 20.

The owner of Okyeman FC who has been considered as one of the favourites to win the slot asserted that barring any further obstacles “I want to assure you that the next phase of my campaign begins immediately.”

George Afriyie will face strong opposition from the likes of Kurt Okraku, Wilfred Osei Palmer, Nana Yaw Amponsah, Fred Pappoe, Amanda Clinton among others.

The GFA Presidential election is scheduled to take place on October 25 in Accra.
