Caleb Ekuban has justified his inclusion in the Black Stars - Asamoah Gyan

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has claimed that Black Stars newbie Caleb Ekuban has justified his inclusion in the Black Stars after his goal-fest debut performance.

Ekuban endeared himself to the fans of Ghana after he emerged from the bench to score Black Stars lone goal in the 1-0 win over Kenya in the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier to help the West Africa giants claim top spot in Group F.

The on-loan Trabzonspor forward continued his red-hot form three days later when he hit the back of the twine in the 3-1 friendly victory over Mauritania.

The 25-year-old’s performance has earned him applauds from the team’s skipper Asamoah Gyan- who intimated that Ekuban’s inclusion in the team to the AFCON 2019 in Egypt looks sealed due to the two striking displays.

“Ekuban has justified himself for now because you cannot take just one or two games to judge a striker. But it looks like he has justified himself because he has played two games of which he never played the full ninety minutes. In all the games whenever he came on he made sure he scored a goal”, Gyan shared in an Interview with Asempa FM.

He continued “They have all been very important games which ensured the Black Stars won their matches against Kenya and Mauritania. So they have all been crucial goals and I think he has proven himself. Looking at his scoring ratio for the Black Stars, for now, I think he has proven himself to be out there.”

Ekuban has been impressive in the ongoing Turkish campaign since joining on loan from English Championship side Leeds United in the summer.

He has provided two assists and netted four in 21 games to help Trabzonspor climb to 5th on the Turkish SupaLig.
