Hearts of Oak beat Black Satellites in friendly game

Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts Oak deepened the woes of Ghana’s U20 male national team -The Black Satellites – at the Tema Sport Stadium on Saturday.

Two second-half goals from substitute Kofi Kordzi gave the flying Phobians a 2-1 win over the leaking Black Satellites side who are wrapping up their preparation for the 2019 U20 AFCON.

Benjamin Afutu’s corner kick a few minutes into the second half was flicked by Benjamin Agyare and was handsomely connected by Kofi Kordzi with his first touch to break the virginity of the game.

Moments after breaking the deadlock, Kordzi increased the tally for the Phobians with a forceful tap-in after Satellites skipper Gideon Mensah failed to clear the ball from a Daniel Kodie corner kick.

Nathaniel Adjei jumped on from the bench to reduce the tally for the Black Satellites with an amazing header from a corner kick to leave the score 2-1.

Ghana coach Jimmy Cobblah changed almost the entire starting eleven as he was determined not to lose for the second time in three days, after their helpless 3-0 defeat to Dreams FC at Sogakope on Thursday.

The first half of the game was evenly shared as both sides showed glimpses of good football with Hearts of Oak remaining a little relaxed in their approach.

It was, however, Joseph Esso who was gifted with the first opportunity of the game but blasted wide when he could have simply shot the Phobians into the lead.

Kojo Obeng Jnr had his share of the opportunities but failed to impregnate the net while Sadiq Ibrahim’s magnificent strike for the Satellites galloped over the bar to leave the game barren before the break.

The second half saw over six changes to each side with the Black Satellites dominating play but it was Hearts of Oak who made positive use of the chances that came their way.

The game becomes the last game for the Satellites as they enplane to Niger on Monday to start preparations for the tournament scheduled for next month.
