Chief accountant at the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Salisu Umaru has instructed its Northern Regional Director Madam Salamatu Alhassan to account for GH68, 000 plus monies accrued over a period of ten months.

According to the letter dated 8th November 2018, sixty-eight thousand three Hundred and eighty-two Ghana Cedis (GH68, 382.00) was generated between January and October 2018.

The said amount was however not paid into the Authority's account which clearly violates section 18 of the financial Administration regulation of 2003.

The Authority has however written to Madam Salamatu directing her to “refund the money into the official account with immediate effect and submit the bank pay-in-slip to head office for verification within two (2) weeks or provide details of how such monies were spent with memo’s, invoices and payment vouchers authorizing such payment”.

The letter further directs Madam Salamatu to “refund the ten thousand Ghana cedis (GH10, 000) paid into your personal account by the local Hajj Committee to the authority’s account without delay”.

But in a dramatic twist, Madam Salamatu denied knowledge of such letter when contacted by savannanews24.com and has refused to comment any further.

Meanwhile, the recently confirmed substantive Director General at the National Sports Authority, Majeed Bawa confirmed to savannanews24.com that there was a circular to all affected officers across the country after a committees findings. The committee was set up to look into some issues regarding the Authority’s administrative operations.

“I know there was a committee set up to look into some issues regarding the operations of the Authority but this was not done in Tamale only but rather across the country, the committee concluded their work and I am aware that a letter was sent to the affected officers including Tamale but the figure is what I don’t know”.

Majeed Bawa, however, indicated that none of the affected officer’s embezzled funds meant for the Authority but rather his outfit wants to ensure proper administrative procedures are followed.

“This is purely an internal matter there were activities that we undertook and so we just wanted to be sure they followed the administrative procedures it is not as though they embezzled monies”.
