Black Starlets ready for WAFU Championship after MRI test

All members of the national under-17 team, the Black Starlets, have successfully undergone the per-tournament, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test, ahead of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Championship, in Niger, from September 2-15, 2018.

The sub regional championship, would serve as qualifiers for the Africa Under-17 Championship in Tanzania next year.

The winner would join seven other countries in Tanzania, to battle for slots for the World Under-17 Championship in Poland, next year.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Dan Kweku Yeboah, spokesperson for the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Liaison Team, all members of the team have been cleared to participate in the championship.

The statement said, Benin has been disqualified from the championship, after half of their players failed the MRI test, whilst Nigeria and Ivory Coast had two players each sent home, with Togo recording one failure.

The Liaison Team expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for footing the bills of the preliminary MRI bone scan done in Ghana.

They also congratulated the entire playing body and the technical team for scaling this hurdle whilst reminding them of qualification for Poland 2019 remains the ultimate.
