StarTimes committed to GPL

StarTimes Ghana Limited, broadcast right owner of the Zylofon Cash Ghana Premier League, has said it is still committed to covering the league and not backing out of the contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in spite of the recent saga in which the FA is embroiled.

Akorfa Djankui, head of marketing at StarTimes Ghana Limited, has emphasised that the broadcasters will not be forced to terminate their contract with the GFA in the wake of the exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which has led to the government taking steps to liquidate the GFA.

The Anas documentary dubbed Number 12’ captured GFA executives including the recently resigned-president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, as well as some referees, taking bribes and engaging in other unethical practices.

On Tuesday, 12 June, the government, led by Attorney General Gloria Akuffo, secured an injunction from an Accra High Court on the GFA for ten days as part of the dissolution process.

But StarTimes says in spite of these happenings, it will not terminate the contract with the GFA.



“We do not think that the exposé is going to stop us or alter anything that we do in terms of coverage of the league, and, so, we are still in support of the good of Ghana football, and, so, we are waiting for the way forward,” Ms Djankui said.

She further stated that StarTimes supports the government in its quest to restore Ghana football to its glory.

“We are very patient. We know they are going to set up an IMC which will deliberate with sponsors on the way forward, and, so, we are very patient and waiting for whatever to do for the level of Ghana football,” she said.
