ITF Wheelchair Futures Tournament to be staged in Ghana

The ITF DanDeVan Wheelchair Futures Tournament will start on November 5-8, 2018. The ITF DanDeVan Wheelchair Futures Tournament will start on November 5-8, 2018.

The crème of wheelchair tennis players all over the world will converge on the tennis courts of the Accra Sports Stadium for the first ever ITF DanDeVan Wheelchair Futures Tournament between November 5 and November 8, 2018.

The tournament has generated great levels of excitement within the fraternity with indications that some foreign wheelchair players, especially in the UK and US, will travel to Accra for the three-day tournament.

The bait is a total prize package of $ 3000 coupled with the fact that new rivalries will be created amongst players from different countries which brings a new buzz of excitement amongst the players.

In an interview with Mr. Daniel Nii Mensah, the Executive Chairman of the DanDeVan Group, he said “we set out to create internationally competitive players from the onset and we are on course. He added his outfit was proud to sponsor the tournament as part of their efforts in giving back to the society."

Mr. Nii Mensah further on called on other corporates companies to come and support the upcoming futures.

The Coordinator for Ghana Wheelchair Tennis, Henry Larbi, said he was particularly elated with the advantages this tournament would bring to the country. He said that it would present the federation an opportunity for many of their players who might not have gotten the chance to participate in an international tournament.

"Some of the players have been participating in international tournaments, so our players have been travelling far. However, it is very difficult to have people to support the players to travel. So having such a tournament in Ghana is a great advantage to us because we will have a lot of our players participating so that we get the needed points for the Paralympic Games in 2020.'
