Former spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey has accused outgone vice president George Afriyie of betraying him due to “football politics”.

According to Abbey, he used to have a close relationship with Abbey until the Okyeman Planners bankroller decided to go “wayward”.

The pair are currently not executive members of the FA, having both been relieved of their posts under very similar circumstances.

Abbey was removed as spokesperson after reportedly falling out with FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, whiles Afriyie was recently relieved of his post as both Black Stars management committee chairman and FA vice president after declaring his intension to contest the association’s presidency next year.

However, the former has claimed that he was once betrayed by Afriyie, but was quick to add that they have “trashed things out”.

“George Afriyie and I go way back but football politics made him lose his way a little. The whole thing is based on our relationship there were certain closures he was supposed to make that he didn’t make but I have moved on,” Abbey told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“He realised that he has made errors and apologised and we have trashed things out as a man. When we went onto the FA were very cool. But because of this football and stuff, he went wayward a bit as far as our relationship is concerned because there are things that he got himself involved which affected me and I wasn’t happy with the way he handled it because it was a mark of betrayal. Because he had knowledge of something which was about me and you didn’t tell me.”

Abbey has been away from football in recent years, but Afriyie is bent on becoming the next FA president having already declared his intentions.
