Four players banned for a match each from GHALCA knockout

Accra, Aug 11, GNA - Four players have been banned from the return matches of the Ghana League Clubs Association's (GHALCA) Special Knock-Out tournament scheduled for Sunday at all the league centres. The four who were all shown red cards in the opening first leg matches have in addition to the ban been fined between 200,000 cedis to 300,000 cedis depending on the circumstances for their expulsion.

A statement from the organisers copied to the GNA Sports named the affected four players as Okwawu United's Nasiru Ghani, Umar Yakubu and Seth Konadu of Accra Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak's Adjah Tetteh. Of the four, Adjah Tetteh and Umar Yakubu were each fined 300,000 cedis for serious foul play and violent conduct whilst Nasiru Ghani and Seth Konadu were fined 200,000 cedis for attracting two yellow cards that led to their expulsions.

GHALCA said 29 other players have also received a caution for either dissent or unsporting behaviour.

Real Sportive top the list of clubs with the most cautions with four yellow cards followed by Feyenoord, Liberty Professionals, Hearts of Oak and AshantiGold with three yellow cards each.

Teams with two cautions are Okwawu, Hasaacas, King Faisal, Olympics and BA United whilst Power FC, RTU and Bofoakwa have one yellow card to their credit.

The Special Knock-Out tournament is being organised by GHALCA to keep the Premier League teams busy and at the same time provide them with a means of generating some revenue.

The local Kinapharma Premier League is facing a long lay off to allow the Black Stars and Black Meteors clear some international assignments.

The competition continues on Sunday with the return leg matches.
