George Ashie to face Michael Mokoena on April 27 for WBO Belt

Ghana’s George Ashie (27-4-1, 20 KOs) will be making a return to the ring on April 27th at the Bukom Boxing Arena as he will battle South Africa’s Michael Mokoena (11-1, 7 KOs) for the vacant interim WBO Africa lightweight belt.

Ashie-Mokoena clash was announced on Thursday in a news conference at the Old Kingsway, opposite Usher Fort, in Accra.

“On April 27th, George Ashie will be fighting for the vacant interim WBO Africa lightweight belt against Michael Mokoena from South Africa,”CEO of Box Office Promotions Alex Ntiamoah announced.

“Ashie is a talented boxer he has gotten this opportunity to prove his worth against in the game.”

Ashie in his speech, thank the promoters for giving him the opportunity and also promised to beat Mokoena for the belt.

“I would like to thank Alex Ntiamoah and his outfit for putting this fight together. This fight is a make or break for me,” he said.

“I have trained very hard for the fight. I want to assure Ghanaians that Mokoena will come to Ghana but he will return to South Africa with nothing, the title is staying in Ghana.”

Ashie’s last outing was five months ago when he brutally stopped Tanzania’s Max Moshi in round two at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

Mokoena’s last fight was in October 2017 – he stopped Gift Bholo in round five in a lightweight contest.
