Aduana Stars defeated ES Setif 1-0 in the first leg of the final qualifying round of the CAF Champions League at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

Substitute’s Sam Adam’s goal from the spot gave the Ogya Boys a slim lead as they head into the return leg in a fortnight.

Aduana Stars dominated the game right from the start but struggled to break down the Algerian side who opted to sit deep and hit on the break.

The home side returned from the break a much-improved side and created decent chances but the forward line led by Derrick Sasraku were too wasteful.

The breakthrough moment came in the 72nd minute when Sam Adams calmly converted a penalty after Zakaria Mumuni was brought down by a Setif defender.

The goal revived the spirit of the Dormaa boys who pushed forward to get the needed cushioning by their efforts were unsuccessful.

The Dormaa-based side could become the first Ghanaian club to make it to the group stages of the competition since Berekum Chelsea in 2012, if they get a favourable scoreline in Algeria.

The second leg is scheduled to take place on March, 17.
