Athletes to train in Germany

Ghana?s athletics contingent would converge in Germany on Friday to fine tune preparations for next month?s Athens Olympic games.

Five local athletes will join eleven foreign-based colleagues for the exercise.

Ghana will compete in just two disciplines-soccer and athletics; the Para Olympics will be held in September.

Ghana?s preparation in athletics has been limited predominantly to participation at the African Athletics Championships in Congo for the local component of the team.

The foreign-based athletes have been training under individual coaches at their European bases with some $2500 per individual assistance from the Ghana Olympic Committee.

Nonetheless, S. S. Atuahene, chief coach of the Ghana Athletics Association, is certain of a good outing for Ghana in Athens.

Atuahene told JoySports that he is counting on the recent string of impressive performances by his foreign-based athletes to haul in some medals for the nation.
