Prof Dodoo still at post – GAA

President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Professor Francis Dodoo has not resigned as president of the association, according to members of the association.

There has been several reports circulating in media circles on the resignation of the former president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), but the GAA has refuted the claim.

An initial report of his resignation was made after he lost the GOC presidency in March last year, but the GAA denied the reports; the recent one was triggered by his absence at the GAA’s annual congress held at Cape Coast a fortnight ago.

The said congress was chaired by the Vice-President of the association, George Lomotey, but the GAA still insists that Prof Dodoo is still at post as the GAA’s President.

In a related development, the GAA has released their 2018 calendar, with the beginning of the first national circuit on January 26 at the Essipong Stadium in Takoradi.

The second edition of the circuit would be held on February 23 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. GAA will then hope to participate in the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) indoors in Birmingham on March 1.

Cape Coast would again host the third edition of the national circuit on March 16, then participate in the Commonwealth Games on April 8, and have the fourth national circuit on May 18 at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

The final edition of the national circuit would be held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on June 16 and have the national championships on July 6.
Ghana would host the ECOWAS Championship at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in June.

GAA would also hope to participate in the IAAF U-20 Championships in Finland on July 10, then the Africa Youth Games in Algeria on July 17, and also the Senior Africa Championship on August 1.

The last activity to end the 2018 athletics calendar would be their participation in the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina on October 6.
