Beach soccer not dead – Yaw Ampofo Ankrah

President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has laughed off suggestions that beach soccer in Ghana has collapsed.

In an exclusive interview with Class Sports on Tuesday, November 28, the sports journalist cum sports administrator conceded that 2017 has been a silent year for the sport but attributed this to "serious" behind the scenes work including the proposed construction of Ghana's first beach sports arena in 2018.

“Quiet is the right word to use but it is not dead, far from that. What we have decided to do is to set up a committee to go round and inspect potential venues and sites in the Volta region, Greater Accra, Central and Western region for the national championship which will be launched in 2018.

“It is a marathon and not a sprint as far we are concerned. We sat back and looked at the dangers, the failures of the past and what we have been doing right and wrong.
He adds the management of Ghana beach Soccer will see the rebranding of the sports with support from the Ghana Football Association.

“It is a new industry so we need to sit back and prepare. The acceleration of beach soccer exceeded our expectations and it got to a point we were way ahead of our time and we got stuck and it was a failure and I admit that but haven’t said that, we can pause and look back and repackage and link up with the Ghana FA. “I spoke to the president of the FA and he is very accommodating and he has assured us to discuss the way forward.” He added.
