GOC President to attend ANOC General Assembly in Czech Republic

The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah will leave Accra on Tuesday, October 31, to take part in the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Prague, Czech Republic.

The meeting is scheduled to begin on October 30 and end on Saturday, November 4, at the Hilton Prague Hotel.

The Congress would be attended by over 1,000 delegates, including representatives from all 206 NOCs as well as representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Federations and upcoming Organising Committees.

The 2017 ANOC Awards will also take place on Thursday, November 2, and there will be a number of other meetings including the ANOC Executive Council and ANOC Commissions and Working Group meetings.

Under the provisions of the Constitution of ANOC, the General Assembly is the supreme governing body of the Association of National Olympic Committees.

The member of NOCs are entitled to participate in the General Assembly, represented by their delegates, in addition to the members of the Executive Council of ANOC.

The Ordinary General Assembly meets each year while the General Assembly elects the President and the Senior Vice-President every four years, as well as the members of the Executive Council.

The ANOC aims to strengthen the relationships between the NOCs and the Olympic Family for the benefit of the entire Olympic Movement.

By facilitating and opening up a new dialogue, ANOC is committed to forging more productive and collaborative working relationships between NOCs and International Federations (IFs) in particular.

The ANOC also has a number of strong relationships with other organisations including UNESCO, and has representatives in a number of IOC Commissions, in particular, in the Coordination Commissions for Olympic Games; the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA); the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS); and the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS).

Tokyo, Japan would host next year’s ANOC meeting while San Diego in California, USA, is expected to host the 2019 event and at the same time hosts the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games.
