The University of Ghana survived a late scare to beat highly-fancied Ghana Technology University College 2-1 in the 2017 Tertiary Football League over the weekend.

The headline game of the round lived up to the billing as both teams traded shots in a pulsating game capped off perfectly with a thrilling end.

Ezekiel Asare of UG scored in the first half to get the host team up and running after a tentative start to the matchup.

With neither team willing to let go its winning run in the competition, the second half was largely characterized by hard fouls and stoppages.

Despite being on the end of a few dodgy referee decisions, Ghana Technology’s vaunted attack struck late s Richmond Adu scored in the 81st minute after guiding a beautiful header across goal into the net.

However, GTUC’s joy was short lived as Wahab Boakye struck in the 86th minute to give UG its second win in three games.

With ties against lower ranked sides like GIMPA coming up, UG’s chances of making it out of the Southern Zone have increased exponentially.

GTUC will have to beat Accra Technical University to stand a chance of progressing to the next stage.

There is no end in sight for Marshalls losing streak after their 3-1 defeat to GIMPA in Saturday's opening fixture at the main stadium of the University of Ghana.

GIMPA took an early lead in the 10th minute through Michael Nartey’s long drive that caught goalkeeper Melchizedeck Mohammed off his line.

This was a down moment for the Marshalls stopper who denied GIMPA Captain Richard Yankey’s penalty kick in the second minute of the game.

Two more goals followed in the second half before Edwin Asante got one from distance with a wonderful strike for Marshalls’ consolation.

After conceding losing a pair of games by eight goals with four goals coming in each game, losing to GIMPA in another rout makes it difficult to harbor hope for the side’s debut win in the competition.

With games against University of Ghana lined up in the coming weeks, Marshalls woes could get worse.

In the Northern zone, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology continued their fine form with a deserved 1-0 win over city rivals Kumasi Technical University at the Paa Joe stadium in Kumasi.

The win sees KNUST stretch their lead at the top of the table with nine points from three games.

Baptist University College recorded the biggest win in the ongoing Tertiary Football League by whitewashing Christian Services University College 5-1.

Baptist trotted out to a 3-0 first half win over Christian Services in a game that features the bottom ranked teams in the Northern Division.

Christian Services fell behind by two more goals in the second half to round off the humiliating loss which will see the side continue to ride at the basement of the standings.
