As part of many initiatives to promote deaf sports in upcoming years, Ghana Deaf Volleyball Association, (GDVA) is embarking a volleyball project with 2017 Summer Deaflympics women volleyball silver medalists, Italy.

With this project, which is first ever international collaboration of the association which will bring together executives from Ghana and delegates from Italy, arrangements are being initiated to hold series of meetings with Ghana Deaf Sports Federation(GDSF), National Paralympics Committee(NPC), National Sports Authority(NSA) and Ghana National Association of the Deaf(GNAD) to identify, explore and discuss development oriented sports initiatives, as well as, exchange and future collaboration projects between the two nations.

For many years, the association has been looking for collaborations. The benevolence of joint partners of this project, therefore, came as a blessing to the association, and it brings to the fore an worthy opportunity to spearhead deaf sports developments across Africa.

Issues to be addressed include Ghana's preparedness to participate in 2021 Summer Deaflympics, building network of contacts and awareness creation among others. The project also seeks to bring together national athletes, create platform to identify young athletes, and discuss ways to effectively train them by encouraging their participation in sports.

It is expected to kick-start from 30th October to 10th November, and has been approved by project partners and is awaiting implementation by the end of this month.

To make the project more interesting, the national deaf volleyball teams will play selected sides from schools for the deaf to round off the project.
